Meet Mrs. Harris
Hello, and welcome to my Pre-Engineering and Engineering class. My name is Mrs. Emily Harris. I am excited that I will be spending this semester enhancing your students understanding of basic engineering concepts. I graduated from Oklahoma State University with a degree in Secondary Science Education with an emphasis in Biology. I love science and I am very passionate about teaching. I work on constantly improving myself as a teacher and I have a high level of expectations for my students.
At Stillwater Public Schools we use Project Lead The Way curriculm. Project Lead The Way (PLTW) is a hands-on, project based learning curriculum. Your students will learn through classroom instruction (whole group and individual) and by completing project that allow them to practice the skills they are learning.
This year both 6th and 7th grade students will be completing the Desing and Modeling course and the Automation and Robotics course. Design and Modeling gives the students and introduction to the design process, various types of sketching to communicate ideas for designs, and using Sketch Up computer program in order to turn a 2D sketch into a 3D object. Automation and Robotics introduces the students to coding, gear ratios, the affect of gear rations on speed and torque, and simple mechanisms. The students will learn these concepts through building and coding robots that address a design challenges.
I love working at Stillwater Middle School and have lived in the Stillwater for seven years and am looking forward to many more. I am married to Chris Harris who works as banker here in town. We have three beautiful girls who keep us busy and on our toes.
I look forward to working with you, and each of your students this year. If you ever have any concerns or questions please feel free to contact me. You can contact me by email or phone. Thank you!
Sincerely,
Mrs. Emily Harris
